2018 Holiday Grants

During the 2018 fall semiannual grant season, Bay Area Community Foundation awarded a $1,000 grant the CAN Council of the Great Lakes Bay Region to throw a holiday party for the kids they service. This grant from the Elizabeth J. Husband Fund will provide new clothing, toys, and a nice meal for children who are in and out of their homes during the holiday season.

casa childThe CAN Council works with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers who are partnered with a child living in a foster home. This volunteer’s job is to advocate for the child within the court and foster care system as a result of child abuse and neglect.

The grant will provide some peace and joy this holiday season as the CASA kids and their workers gather to see Santa, play games, and receive presents. This holiday experience is “simply something they deserve,” says the CAN Council.

The Elizabeth J. Husband also awarded to the following organizations this year:

  • Bay Area Women’s Center – To provide holiday gifts to individuals displaced by domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
  • Bay Arenac Behavioral Health Authority – To host a holiday party for their consumers.
  • Bay County Emergency Food Pantry Network – To offer food vouchers for families in need for a holiday dinner.
  • Dow Bay Area Family Y – To provide a free breakfast with Santa to the community for Christmas for all ages.
  • Nate & Mary Ida Doan Santa House – To make enhancements to the Santa House.
  • Pinconning Area Emergency Food Pantry – To give holiday gift baskets with food for a holiday dinner and essential clothing items.
  • Safe Harbor Community Center – To provide personal care items for those in need.
  • Santa’s Cupboard – To purchase gifts that are distributed to children in hospitals, homeless shelters, and women’s centers.
