We Count Because YOU Matter

We Count Because Community Matters - Census 2020

The Census directs funding to vital programs, services, and projects that make our community stronger.

Census data is used to decide on funding to our communities that feeds our kids, finds housing for the homeless, helps with education, empowers minorities, supports immigrants, keeps seniors active and healthy, creates jobs, fixes roads, and so much more. Census funding impacts almost everything that's important to you!

The Census is for everyone, and it's easy.

Everyone matters with the Census. All populations count—immigrants, minorities, seniors, the homeless, babies, teens, people in jail—everyone! All people living in the same household should be counted. You don't need to be related, a permanent citizen, or over 18 to be counted.

  • The Census asks fewer questions that a social media profile. The questions are simple: age, name, gender, birthday, race/ethnicity, relationship to head-of-household, owner or renter, and phone number. The few minutes it will take to answer the questions equals millions of dollars to our community for vital services and programs. Don't let the services we need leave our community.
  • By law, everything you share stays confidential. No other government agencies will see your answers including ICE, the FBI and CIA, police, landlords, the IRS, and all other agencies.
  • Complete the census online at home or anywhere there is internet access. Tell your family and friends, too—the Census is important to us! You can respond online, by phone, or by mail.

The Census creates a better future.

Census data is used for 10 years to decide local funding. There is a lot of money at stake. In our area, each person equals about $1,800 a year in funding. In Michigan, almost half of our funding comes from the federal government. If you don't get counted, we risk losing vital services in Bay County.

Regional Census Hub Communications Toolkit - For Organizations

We all want to ensure a better future for our children, our families, and our communities. Getting the right message to the right people at the right time is key to Census participation. By partnering with the community foundations of Saginaw, Midland, and Isabella counties, we have created a Regional Census Hub which has developed a toolkit for anyone to use. This toolkit provides you with the communications and strategic guidance to:

  • Help people understand the purpose, content, and process of the Census, especially the hard-to-reach populations throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region.
  • Demonstrate Census impact with relevant and tangible examples of how the community will benefit, now and in the future.
  • Use trusted voices like yours to encourage participation, especially among target audiences that are harder to count or persuade.

Combining all our resources into one toolkit creates a unified brand that will elevate our impact throughout the region. Access the toolkit by clicking here and use the downloads in your communications.
