Health & Wellness

  • Thanks to our generous donors, Bay Area Community Foundation awarded 64 grants during the first grant cycle to organizations in our community that support arts and culture, community initiatives, environment, education, health and wellness, human services, and recreation.

  • In a philanthropy circle, the donations of many come together for a big impact.

  • The new climbing wall at Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum allows Bay County children with disabilities to work with their therapists in a safe and fun environment.

  • Resources are available to improve health and wellness—it will take early intervention.

  • Community foundations play an important role in creating a vibrant community for future generations to enjoy. By working together with other community leaders, we help initiate new projects and programs that work toward those goals.

  • “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”- Coretta Scott King.

  • On May 5, Bay Area Community Foundation hosts a 24-hour online giving day at www.givelocalbay.org to raise funds for nonprofits in Bay and Arenac counties. With $25,000 in incentive funds and an additional $3,000 in potential prizes for nonprofits, it’s a celebration when your gift goes further. Especially this year, when so many nonprofits have had to cancel fundraising events and others are working hard to ensure our families are fed and cared for, it’s a great time to show your community that you care.

  • The idea of running around a gym or playing basketball may not be appealing for all. Such was the case for some children at Standish-Sterling Central Elementary—that is until they started using heart rate monitors.

  • From closed offices and cancelled fundraising events to adaptive programming for the digital landscape, we know that our local nonprofits are feeling the effects of COVID-19 in varying ways, both big and small. Perhaps operations have already shifted, or perhaps you're only starting to experience the longer-term implications. Here at the Community Foundation, we are listening and working through ways to best serve you. Know that the work you do is important and that together, we will see our community through this.

  • Bay Area Community Foundation awarded a grant of $75,000 from the Healthy Living Fund to the City of Au Gres to build a splash pad at Harbor Park.

  • The Women's Philanthropy Circle at Bay Area Community Foundation awarded a grant to Great Lakes Bay Health Centers to provide new mothers with portable cribs and car seats.
