Bay Area Community Foundation Awards Grants to Area

Non Profit Organizations

 

The Bay Area Community Foundation awarded $173,382.96 in grants to local non-profit organizations in Bay and Arenac Counties.   The grants will assist programs in arts and culture, community development, education, environment, health, and human services.  More than $12 million has been invested in our community through grants to non-profit organizations since the Foundation was established in 1982. 

“Our grants committees spend considerable time evaluating proposals from non-profit organizations before making awards.  Each year the Bay Area Community Foundation receives many more requests than can be supported. The grants committees are compelled to make funding decisions based on the worthiness of the projects, their relation to community needs and potential results, and their impact on the greatest number of area residents. These decisions are not made lightly." said Eileen Curtis, President & CEO of the Bay Area Community Foundation.  

Bay Area Women’s Center received funding for the Family Recreation Program.  This program allows shelter families to attend free recreational activities to promote and encourage a positive family experience.  Events may include swim days, bowling, movie passes, family skating, memberships to Bay County Boys and Girls Clubs, school activities and field trips. 

Junior Achievement of Northeast Michigan received funding for high school economic materials to be used by teachers and classes taught by a local business people. The goal of the project is to fund high school economic program that have a strong possibility of being reduced due to budget cuts.
