39 Grants Awarded to Area
Non-Profit Organizations
Staying true to the theme of Growing a Thriving a Community the Bay Area Community Foundation has awarded over $230,000 to local non-profits this Spring . This amount contributes to the more than $4 million invested in Bay and Arenac Counties through grants in the past five years. The grants will assist programs in arts and culture, community development, education, environment, health, and human services.
“It is always difficult for our grant committees to choose among so many deserving organizations. Unfortunately, the number of requests for assistance exceeds the resources available. The grants committees seek to fund those requests which will best meet community needs, have a long-lasting impact, and reach a large number of area residents,” said Eileen Curtis, President and CEO of the Bay Area Community Foundation.
Crime Stoppers of Bay County was awarded a Bay Area Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee grant to help promote school safety in Bay and Arenac Counties. Crime Stopperswill be using funds to establish a stronger presence in local schools by informing them about their confidential hotline and giving students the opportunity to report acts of vandalism, theft, drug sales and even bullying.
Through the Bay Area Community Foundation’s Community Initiative Fund New Dimensions, Inc. was able to purchase a riding lawn mower and has already been able to put it work. Partnering with the Friends of the Historic Pine Ridge Cemetery, New Dimensions was are able to preserve a valuable historic site while providing a unique training opportunity for adults with disabilities.
The Community Initiative Fund has provided funding for a portion of Studio 23’s Summer Improvement Project. Funding will help provide essential items such as pottery wheels, easels, a kiln and other items necessary to upgrade classes. The long term goal of the Summer Improvement Program is to increase class sizes and frequency.
